                           Daily Routine Provokes Stress.

Many events in our lives can cause stress. How often have you had a headache? How many stomachache have you had? Have you sometimes found it difficult to breathe? Have you had any skin problems? How often have you felt sad or nervous for no good reason? How often have you wanted to cry? How often have you got angry?

If you answer to three or more of these questions «too often», you are probably suffering from stress. And if you are suffering from stress, you are not alone. Over half of the students have had stress – related symptoms in the last year and many of them have needed help of some kind. Stress is now the major health problem of our time. Because of stress most of pupils have got physiological storm: absence of concentration, of attention, nervous breakdowns, bad appetite and bad dream.

Stress, itself, is not an illness, but it can certainly contribute to illnesses, some of them are serious. When you feel under stress, your body produces more of the hormones of adrenaline and cortisol. As a result, the body needs more oxygen and your heart rate and blood pressure go up. This can lead to heart problems, coughs and colds.

Scientists have also discovered that stress can lead to the loss of brain cells.

The most commons cause of stress is over – work. I tried to analyze my daily routine and understood that over – work is the main cause of the stress.

Look, please, at this table. Here you can see that I normally get up at 7 o’clock during the week, then I get up school at 8.15. and usually have 5 – 6 lessons a day. School ends at 2 p.m. and I go home if I needn`t clean the classroom. But we are seven in the 10th form, so I have to clean my classroom every week.

When I get home, I start doing my home work. As I am in the tenth form, I have three or four hours of homework every evening. At school I learn fourteen subjects. If you look at the table, you will see what subjects I should study every day. I consulted my school principal and found out that 726 working days were lost by our students last year. And I think many of them were lost because of stress. What is more, people who are suffering from stress do not work as well as usual. From this table you can guess that I usual work 9 – 10 hours a day. Isn’t it stressful?  I think that the job of teachers and students is more stressful than others.

It clear, that there is no time to watch TV, meet with friends and work with computer. And there is no opportunity to think of the book as a reception of pleasure. Instead of this I have to read additional literature and do home work tasks.

I want to give you some advice how to do home work. It fact it takes a lot of time for some pupils to do it, it means they are not able to organize their time. Start to do lessons with your favorite subjects. After that have a small break: eat an apple or a slice of chocolate. Then sit down again and do the most difficult of your tasks. One more problem creates difficulties: a lot of pupils read slowly and no able to analyze texts. And so: read more, train the memory, organize the work and success will come to you by all the means.

If you ask schoolchildren what they like most about school, they will probably answer «the breaks». And they are not always joking. When the bell goes for the break, children get the chance to move their legs after hours of sitting in class. The survey shows that children are feeling increasingly unhappy about school, and they are finding it more difficult to get on with children of the same age.

There are some rules how to avoid stress. Take these handouts and follow them.
