- Born Oct. 13, 1925, Grantham in Lincolnshire, England
- Father a grocer, also involved in politics and religion
- Somerville College, Oxford (1947):
- B.S. degree in chemistry
- M.A. in law (taxation)
- 1947-1951: worked as research chemist
- 1951: married Dennis Thatcher

- 1953: called to the bar, elected into Parliament six years later
- 1970: became Leader of the Opposition
- 1974: became Leader of the Tories (after Edward Heath)

- May 1979: Thatcher became the first woman ever to serve as the Prime
Minister of Great Britain!

mass unemployment and business bankruptcy but later, business boomed.
- October 12, 1984: IRA tried to kill Thatcher by bombing the Brighton
hotel
- Many people protested against her policies / ideas: Miner’s Strike
- Oxford University refused her an honorary degree
