My future profession

My future profession  
 
The end of school is the start of our independent life and the beginning of the most serious examination we have to pass. In order to do well at this examination it is necessary to choose the right path in life which will help us best to live and work for own good and for the benefit of our country. Many broad ways will open before the pupils when they leave school. Everybody will have a chance to develop and use the knowledge received during the school years. There are a lot of different trades and professions, and everybody must choose the occupation in which he or she can best develop ones own talent and abilities. Our society needs well-educated people, who will lead it to prosperity.

      When you are only 15 years old it is not easy to decide what you would like to do in the future. I haven’t made a final choice about my future occupation yet. One of the possible careers that I am thinking of pursuing is the career of a diplomat.

     Nowadays the field of international relations has grown to become one the most exciting, important and useful areas of occupation. That is because in the modern times of globalization all countries of our world need to have stable and reliable long-term contacts, in order to allow peaceful development and improve people’s well-being. And so the profession of a diplomat will allow me to make my own contribution to making life on our planet better. It is very hard to achieve this status. Diplomacy requires a broad knowledge of many subjects, an ability to make decisions quickly and to find correct solutions in intricate situations. Moreover, one has to master foreign languages and to be informed about all the latest developments in the relevant region. One also needs excellent social skills, since this profession implies constantly being among people and finding a common language with them. Personal charm and a power of persuading are also essential. One should be good at defending one’s opinion with convincing arguments. Besides, working with many people coming from various cultural backgrounds requires great tolerance and respect of their culture. Because of these numerous challenges awaiting the person who pursues this career path, I am already trying to do something to approach my dream. I read historical books and magazines, I do my best to be in the know of all the current domestic and foreign events. At school, I lay a special emphasis on learning history, geography and foreign languages. I am sociable and out-going, I learn new people easily and manage to maintain friendly relations with them. However, there are also a few features and skills, that would be important for a successful diplomat, that I probably lack. I am not hard-working and persistent enough. I lack self-confidence when speaking in public. But I am working hard on improving these qualities.

     A lot might change in the next couple of years, before I have to make my final choice and start a specialized education. But I hope I’ll make an effort in the coming years in order for my today’s dreams to come true.
